MOJAVE DESERT AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT

The State of California is divided into 35 local air districts that are responsible for regulating stationary sources of air pollution.  The Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District oversees the Morongo Basin and must implement air quality programs required by the state and federal mandates and enforce rules and deregulations based on air pollution laws.

MDAQMD compliance inspectors annually inspect every permitted source to verify continuing adherence to District requirements.  A Notice of Violation (NOV) is written when non-compliance is found.

Air Monitoring staff operates and maintains nine air monitoring stations within MDAQMD jurisdiction, including one at Twentynine Palms.  Pollutants monitored include Ozone, Nitrogen Dioxide, Hydrogen Dioxide, and PM-10 and PM-2.5.  The data complied is forwarded to the California Air Resources Board to be used in determining District progress in achieving cleaner air.

You can view an air quality hourly report/forecast based on the Twentyine Palms monitoring station data here.

The MDAQMD Governing Board is made up of 14 members, 13 of them elected officials and one a member of the public.  The Board meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Board Chambers at the District office in Victorville.  The public is encouraged to attend, and agendas, minutes, and information about availability of information and public participation in the meetings is available here.

Contact and location information, as well as many other resources, may be found at the District’s Website.
