EDUCATION

The future of our environment is our young people.

MBCA has been providing funding to assist local education programs since 1997, beginning with a small scholarship program for high school seniors planning to major in environmental sciences in college.  In 2000 MBCA switched to providing assistance to programs within the high schools and at Joshua Tree National Park.  Since 1997 MBCA has contributed more than $7000 towards environment-oriented education in the Basin.

Among our enduring recipients are the Field Ecology and Botany classes and Garden and Environmental clubs led by instructor Cindy Zacks at Yucca Valley High School.  At the 2008 public meeting in Yucca Valley regarding the Green Path North transmission line project, MBCA was proud to find SIX past graduates of Ms. Zacks’ ecology classes in attendance!

Below are some photos from the 2007-2008 YVHS composting and greenhouse/garden projects, assisted with funding from MBCA.

HELP FUND THE FUTURE:  Your donations will help MBCA continue with programs such as assisting students to learn the importance of keeping our desert healthy.  Find out how to contribute.
