I have lived full time in the Morongo Basin full time since 2009 after vacationing / week-ending here for 20 years.
I currently live in Pipes Canyon, an unincorporated area adjacent to Pioneertown and Rimrock. I most like the beauty, quiet, dark night skies, and tranquility of Pipes Canyon. Living in this somewhat remote area close to nature constantly inspires me.
As a board member of the MBCA for the past nearly four years I have been working with my community and fellow board members to advocate for the installation of appropriate renewable energy systems, such as locally generated roof-top solar. I was a member of the citizens committee advising the Morongo Unified School District as they contracted to add solar to nearly all the schools within the district. I am a board member of the Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency, an organization that brings artists from all over the world to spend an extended period of time in our desert community practicing their art. I was involved in the successful efforts to pass and implement the Bobcat protection act. I have been involved with generating and making comments to the BLM regarding the West Mojave Travel Management Plan (WEMO). I am currently enrolled in CERT training to provide community assistance following a disaster.
I have a strong interest in working to nurture and maintain the intact-ecosystem of the Mojave Desert. I am interested in learning about and informing my community about the importance of wise water use and energy efficiency in this time of diminishing supplies and climate change.
Being a part of a vibrant and engaged community of people that are striving to maintain the special qualities of the Morongo Basin motivates me to stay involved.
