MCBA Scholarship Application

The Morongo Basin Conservation Association [MBCA] is offering three $1000 scholarships for graduating high school seniors who are Morongo Basin residents and plan to attend a college or university in 2023-24.

Applicants must demonstrate in their application essay how environmental conservation relates to their academic major and/or their educational and career goals. Any major or degree program will be considered, with a preference for STEAM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics).

Majors from A to Z that help to protect our environment for the future might include:

Art/Architecture, Biology, Conservation, Desert Studies, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Ecology, Fire Ecology, Geography, Geology, Hydrology, Ichthyology, Environmental Justice, Kinesiology, Land Management, Media, Native American Studies, Outdoor Recreation, Planning, Quantum Physics, Renewable Energy, Science, Solar Energy, Technology, Urban Planning, Veterinary Medicine, Wildlife,
Xeriscape, Youth Education, Zoology

Among the three scholarships, we expect to award one to a female student and one to an "arts" major in memory of local artist and conservationist Steve Rieman. One scholarship is funded by memberships and donations to our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and two are specifically funded by anonymous and forward-thinking donors especially interested in supporting women in STEAM majors and students who plan to merge environmental protection and the arts in their future.

Student applicants must be Morongo Basin residents and 2023 high school graduates. The minimum GPA requirement is 2.50. The application must be completed and submitted by 11:59 PM on Sunday, April 2, 2023.
