Wonder Inn Project to be considered by Planning Commission
This ill-considered and inappropriate project proposed for the Wonder Valley community will be heard at the March 23, 2023 Planning Commission hearing. The staff report recommends approval of a Policy Plan Amendment for rezoning of RL property to Commercial and a Conditional Use Permit for the construction of what would be the largest resort in the Morongo Basin! Proposed for an area with no existing infrastructure and abysmal water quality, we believe the staff recommendation of a California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) is clearly inappropriate. MBCA has submitted substantive comments in opposition to this project along with many other concerned residents participating in the Stop Wonder Inn effort. We encourage in-person attendance at this important meeting to express your opinion!

Attend in-person at:

County Government Center
Covington Chambers
385 N. Arrowhead Avenue, 1st Floor
San Bernardino, CA 92415

Video conferencing facilities will be available to view the meeting and make oral comments at the following location:

Bob Burke Government Center
63665 Twentynine Palms Highway 1st floor
Joshua Tree, CA 92252

Flamingo 640 Glamping Project has been appealed!
Meanwhile, at the other end of the Morongo Basin, this resort with 75 campsites, a 10,000sf(!!!) restaurant, a 5,000sf(!!!) bar, workshop, store, swimming pool, and helipad(!!!) project was not granted approval by commissioners at the March 9 Planning Commission hearing. The lack of any motion to deny or approve the project stopped the project. The project planner Jim Morrissey has given word that an appeal by the developer, RoBott Land Company, has been filed. The appeal will be now considered by the entire Board of Supervisors at an unknown future date. MBCA provided written and oral comments to the Planning Commission in opposition to the approval of this project. We will continue to track this inappropriate development that we believe shares many of the same deficiencies as the Wonder Inn resort.
