    Museum Lecture: Baskets of the Cahuilla and Serrano

    This noontime lecture presentation by Daniel McCarthy, M.S., will provide an overview about materials used, the age and uses of Cahuilla and Serrano baskets. Daniel has an extensive history of experience with park and tribal authorities relating to archaeology, plant material, cultural resources, and rock art.     Joshua Tree National Park

    Wildflowers of Upper Pinto Basin Field Trip

    This botany-focused 4 to 9 mile hike is sponsored by the Mojave Chapter of the California Native Plant Society. The hike will be moderately paced, but will vary based on the presence of wildflowers and cacti of the Colorado Desert along the way. Leader Mark Wheeler is a desert naturalist, with many years of experience surveying the flora of Joshua Tree National Park. There is no fee but enrollment is limited.     Weed Talk and Volunteer Work Day at MDLT

    The event will begin with a 1-hour lecture by Neil Frakes, Joshua Tree National Park’s vegetation branch chief, explaining how the Park manages invasive plants and what you can do to help! From 10 to noon you are invited to help rid the MDLT property of invasive plants with guidance from staff on recognizing native and invasive plants.     UC Riverside Solar Energy Conference - Day 1

    Day 1 of this expanded annual conference features a "Water-Energy Nexus Workshop: Deployment, Demonstration and Field Implementation in Water Districts." Several MBCA Directors attended this conference in 2017 and 2018 and found the content quite valuable.     Supervisors Special Meeting on RECE 4.10

    San Bernardino County Supervisors will hold a special meeting to vote on the RECE 4.10 on Thursday, February 28, 2019. In the official notice of the meeting note that the meeting will be at the "Temporary Chamber" of the Board of Supervisors at the Government Center. Video conferencing of the meeting will also be available at Joshua Tree's Bob Burke Government Center at 63665 Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree.     The Friends of the Desert Mountains present the 12th Annual Coachella Valley Wildlife FestivalIn addition to great wildflower viewing and beautiful art, the festival features a Kids’ Zone, and a 5k fun run.  There will be raffles, vendors, exhibitors, and live music in the beer and wine garden, as well as food and beverages available for purchase.     Wildflower and Natural History Hike at Corn Springs

    This all-day outing covering approximately 3 miles is sponsored by the Mojave Chapter of the California Native Plant Society. Participants will explore wildflowers and the natural history of the Corn Springs area, beginning at the Corn Springs Campground (BLM) at 10AM.
