Greywater: the relatively clean wastewater from baths, sinks or washing machines.

Greywater systems in the Morongo Basin are becoming more popular, and for good reason. Why not use that "wasted" water for irrigating plants in our dry desert? Of course, the water isn't truly wasted in certain desert areas as it trickles back to underground aquifers through layers of filtering sand.

According to the website Green Matters, a greywater system "can reduce water waste by up to 40 percent, according to estimates, but they certainly aren't for everyone." Learn more about greywater systems in the Morongo Basin below.

In this new Desert-Wise Living Landscaping Tour video, three experts talk about tips and pitfalls of greywater systems in the desert. This video content was captured during a Permaculture Design Course held in Joshua Tree at Harrison House by instructor Warren Brush. Local experts Nicholas Holmes and Damian Lester discuss the topic, with Brush appearing at the end.
