In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the Sand To Snow National Monument that spans the San Bernardino Mountains to Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, participants are invited to use the free iNaturalist smartphone app to identify as many species of plants, animals, and other organisms as possible along designated National Monument trails. The goal of the nature hunt is to give the public an opportunity to experience the Monument’s unique biological value and natural habitats, which include deserts, foothills and mountains, while also contributing to genuine scientific research. The data gathered by the public will be used by BLM and Forest Service staff to better understand the types and locations of species within the Monument. The event is co-sponsored by government and non-profit organizations and is free. More information here and a registration link can be found here.
