In Senator Scott Wiener's press release announcing SB 607, he titles it "The Fast and Focused CEQA Act." The legislation would change five sections of CEQA law to reduce delays and increase the efficiency of the CEQA review, especially for infill housing projects and rezoning related to housing.  HOWEVER, the major changes to CEQA could open the doors to far less scrutiny of any development, resulting in environmental harm and further negative climate change effects. MBCA's comment letter focuses especially on potential great harm to our desert combining CEQA limitations with the recent federal reductions to environmental protection.
