At the public comment meeting on January 18, about two-thirds of the attendees were in favor of the Final Boundary Study recommendation to add approximately 20,000 acres of federal, state, and private lands to the boundary of Joshua Tree National Park. These lands were withdrawn from the original Park in 1950. MBCA supports the return of these lands. Processes have begun to "segregate" the involved BLM lands toward final transfer of these lands to the National Park. Other speakers expressed their wish for the lands to remain under the BLM.

Written comments are still needed in support of returning these lands to the Park. Read the Final Study letter from Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent David Smith for background and links to documents.
