    Why Do We Need Public Lands? MDLT Event

    On "Giving Tuesday" join the Mojave Desert Land Trust for a virtual panel discussion on why we need public lands. Four knowledgeable and experienced speakers will focus on the value of public lands to humans, flora and fauna, and ecology, and how they all connect.     Election 2020 Webinar: What It Means for Public Lands & Conservation

    The California Desert Coalition presents a webinar to examine the likely effects of the 2020 election on public lands and conservation. The three speakers familiar with these issues are David Feinman (Conservation Lands Foundation), Mark Kramer (The Nature Conservancy) and Kim Delfino (Earth Advocacy).     Joshua Tree Fantastic - Second Friday Lecture

    In this virtual version of the former Old Schoolhouse in-person lectures, Interpretive Ranger De Karlen will offer perspectives on the Wilderness Act of 1964 and on Joshua Tree National Park. The lectures are sponsored by the 29 Palms Historical Society and the Desert Institute of the Joshua Tree National Park Association. De Karlen is a Certified Interpretive Guide and she leads hikes with the Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park. The lecture cost is $5. Go to this link to sign up.

    One with the Creosote - Book Signing

    In her new book One With the Creosote - Memories of a Desert Child, writer Chris Tiffany reflects on her childhood growing up on the Mojave Desert during the '50s and '60s, to reveal the origins of an interwoven connection to the natural world around her and its influence on her life's paths and perspectives. The event is free and sponsored by the 29 Palms Historical Society. FACE MASKS are required and SOCIAL DISTANCING will be enforced.

    Native Plant Wreath Competition Webinar - CNPS

    While not a desert event, in the spirit of the season we suggest a novel kind of celebration, watching the judging of the Wreath Masters competition, hosted by the California Native Plant Society. This free virtual event offers the chance to view the judging of a statewide competition for holiday wreaths made mostly of California native plant material.
