That campaign was successful and Tom is quoted several times in this LA Times article describing the Governor's signing of this first-in-America bill.Featured post

The Beginnings of Project Bobcat
Posted by Laraine Turk · June 08, 2015 8:09 PMAdd your reaction ShareProject Bobcat began in Summer 2013. This local citizens' group sought to legislatively end the trapping of these iconic and treasured animals around Joshua Tree National Park. MBCA sent a letter of support to the Governor in September 2013. Those early efforts not only resulted in bobcat protection legislation, but continuing efforts in 2014 and 2015 expanded to pursue a total statewide ban on bobcat trapping. MBCA Director Pat Flanagan's January 2015 letter on this issue, on behalf of all desert communities, explains the issues and goals for this ongoing campaign. In a subsequent letter about the bobcat trapping issue, sent June 8, 2015, MBCA supported a statewide ban on bobcat trapping.See All News on BobcatsDo you like this post?

One letter notes both the inappropriate designation as a campground, and the inaccurate characterization of the "Eco Domes" as related to the Integratron, a totally unique historic building that has nothing but...

Easley Solar Project Comments Emphasize Dust and Environmental Justice
MBCA's October 23 comment letter about the proposed Easley Solar Project near Lake Tamarisk and Desert Center explains how the proposal will add to the already excessive dust problems in current projects nearby, affecting residents' health and violating concepts of environmental justice. Additionally and critically, undisturbed desert land provides carbon sequestration that has far more value and far less harm than scraping more desert for industrial scale solar.
Supervisors Approve RCIS Resolution without Recommended Change
A resolution to support the Regional Conservation Investment Strategy was on the September 26 agenda of the San Bernardino County Supervisors. While MBCA joined other organizations in supporting the RCIS in an August 2023 comment letter, one of the provisions in the Supervisors’ resolution negated much of the value of the plan. Comments from MBCA and the SummerTree Institute, among others, requested deletion of Provision 7, which would disastrously limit...
