We are all welcome to attend an event this Wednesday to mark the Record of Decision (ROD) that initiates the long anticipated DRECP (Desert Renewable Conservation Plan). Apologies for the late notice – MBCA just learned of it. Find the Department of Interior’s invitation below with details. 

The DRECP isn’t all we hoped and worked so hard for. In particular, we are very concerned about the variance / “unallocated” lands in the Plan that lack protection. However on the positive side, significant lands are identified with high conservation values for protection from industrial development. Some wins, as well as remaining vulnerability that we will address with our conservation partners as time goes by.  

MBCA Advisor and MDLT’s Director of Conservation Frazier Haney, reminds us it is important to “keep relationships going with CEC, BLM, DOI. Governor Brown and Secretary Jewell should both be in attendance with their staff members.  I am certain the state BLM office will have a good showing. “
